I have decided to quit my successful project with biphasic sleep. The reason is certainly not that it is too physically requiring — I feel a lot better, and I seem to be in a better condition over-all, even though I’ve only been doing it for two weeks. However, biphasic sleep is for me incompatible with a working social life.
If you can afford sacrificing a part of your social life, I really recommend biphasic sleep. On the other hand, if you usually spend your time out in the evening, don’t try it. It would create more problems than it would solve.

Hi.
Thanks for your kind comments in my LJ :-)
I’m sorry that it didn’t work out for you. A lot of people cite social constraints when they stop and I guess it can be problematic. I’m lucky in that I only really have a social life at the weekend when I can easily move my nap to fit round my life.

Same old **** again… “I would continue doing it but social constraints prevent me from it, certainly not any physical reasons anyway lol”.
Come on, maybe with polyphasic but not with biphasic. My guess is that some very primal instinct kicks in saying that things are just not right and it doesn’t want this anymore no matter what.

Padraig Hogan, I mean it. I loved that way of sleeping. However, around 17 years, social life is vital. The extra productivity just wasn’t worth it.

I can understand stopping Biphasic sleep due to social reasons - it can be hard to have an evening nap if there are people you want to socialize with (or vice versa). I am currently trying it out, working on six hours a day (a 1.5/4.5 hour split for me) - currently about day 12 or 13 so far.
Thank you for putting your experinces up on this blog - it can be a help for anyone who might be currious as to the potential advantages or problems that biphasic sleep can present.

I am a sophomore in high school and have successfully been on this schedule for now 4 months. I feel great, and I can understand you might want to stop this for social reasons, but I’ve found that I can play around with my schedule. I’m used to taking my evening nap around 5 or 6 PM-ish but when I need that time I’ll just swap it with my core sleep (usually 3-6AM) from 11-2 and then a ‘nap’ before leaving for school from 4h30-6, and usually I’m fine on those days (just don’t do to many of those in a row - i start getting tired after 3 in a row)

Marc, Romain — I’m glad it works for you. Perhaps I will give it another try some time, especially since many seem to be fine with adjusting their schedules.

Hi, I started biphasic sleep 2 weeks ago, it’s not going so bad. Today I wasn’t able to have a nap, but I’m going to add an extra 1.5 hour to my 4.5 hour core sleep instead of doing it Romain’s way. It can be a good idea with a 3 hour core sleep but I don’t wanna wake up for 2 hours then go back to bed for the nap. I was tired the last time I added an extra cycle instead of taking a nap, but it’s better than no nap at all. And it’s even better if you just follow your regular schedule :)
