WordPress MU error: No WPMU site defined

I just got this error trying to install Wordpress Multi-User on this host:

No WPMU site defined on this host. If you are the owner of this site, please check Debugging WPMU for further assistance.

Confusing error, especially since I previously installed it successfully. Fortunately, the excellent WordPress forum for MU helped me: just remove the wp-config.php file. Seems like I forgot to configure WordPress the first time I tried WPMU, which was the correct way. You should not upload a wp-config.php for WPMU, since it is generated automatically.

  2. Yes, thanks for that pointer. Anyone used to installing wordpress will automatically edit the wp-config file, and the docs don’t say anywhere that you *shouldn’t* do this for WPMU (or not that I can see…). Hurdle 1 complete :)

  4. Well so far so good. I’m using plesk on this particular site which is making the wildcard host setup a bit of a challenge. but I’ve edited the apache config for this and it seemed to fix that — just have to remember not to use plesk for tweaking that vhost!

But it looks like a pretty good application - I’m impressed so far (after the initial hurdle).

  5. Been everywhere looking for help. Damn! All I needed to do was nothing, just upload all the wpmu files and access the install page. Oh, why did I ever mess with the wp-config.php file at first.

Thanks for the tip! It helped a lot!

  6. Hi,

After unzipping wordpressmu I deleted wp-config file and now I am getting this error:

Installing to http://localhost/ is not supported. Please use http://localhost.localdomain/ instead.
